Please join APWA Sacramento Chapter for our September Luncheon featuring a panel discussion by the City of Rancho Cordova.

Public Works is more than pipes, pavement, plans, and permits—it is also a creative force for building more livable, memorable, and connected communities. In this panel, hear from an Analyst, a Transportation Planner, and a Civil Engineer on how placemaking, tactical urbanism, and public art can transform transportation infrastructure from something people simply move through into something people seek out to experience. Using Rancho Cordova examples including asphalt art, sidewalk poetry, traffic-calming pilots, utility box wraps, and an art walk anchored by a bicycle and pedestrian overcrossing, the panel will explore how creative processes can enhance safety, strengthen neighborhood identity, support active transportation, and deliver a net gain for residents, businesses, and public agencies alike. Attendees will learn how Public Works departments can leverage staff creativity, cross-disciplinary collaboration, community partnerships, and “test and learn” approaches to make infrastructure come alive.

The team presenting will be:

  • Kristine Courdy, Principal Civil Engineer, Public Works, sharing about the Zinfandel Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing and art walk
  • Drew Hart, Principal Transportation Planner, Public Works, sharing about a pilot project integrating asphalt art into traffic calming in one of our historic neighborhoods
  • Jason Kukkola, Management Analyst II, sharing about our historic support for the arts including utility box wraps and other projects integrating art into transportation infrastructure
