The Jesse Unruh Building is a 6 level, approximately 172,000 square foot building in the Capitol Historic District. The renovation of this 100-year-old landmark restored the historic Capitol Fountain and rehabilitated the building’s original architectural materials and features to preserve the building’s historic character and reaffirmed its significance within the Historic District.
The project created flexible, contemporary workspaces with improved access to natural light that encourage collaboration and promote wellness and pride among employees. It was designed as a Zero Net Carbon facility to achieve a Zero Net Energy performance, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the State’s long-term dependence on fossil fuels. The project is set to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
The renovation replaced outdated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage systems while adding new lighting, controls, and security features to improve comfort, reliability, and operational efficiency. The project also included upgrading the seismic performance, fire and life safety systems, and ADA compliance to provide a safe and accessible environment for all staff.
