Registration deadline for the 2026 Mentorship Program is February 10, 2026

February 2026 – September 2026 

The APWA Sacramento Chapter Mentorship Program is designed to foster meaningful professional connections between experienced public works professionals and emerging leaders in the field. This program provides a structured yet flexible opportunity for knowledge sharing, career guidance, and leadership development within the public works sector. 

Program Overview 

Running from February 2026 through September 2026, the program pairs seasoned professionals with young professionals to support professional growth, broaden industry knowledge, and strengthen the public works community. Mentorship relationships are built around open dialogue, shared experiences, and mutual learning. 

Time Commitment 

Participants are encouraged to invest a minimum of four (4) hours per month engaging in mentorship activities. Meetings may be held in person or virtually, based on the preferences and schedules of each mentor–mentee pair. 

Focus Areas 

Discussion topics may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Professional and career development 
  • Leadership skills and management practices 
  • Career paths within public works 
  • Networking and industry involvement 
  • Work-life balance and professional challenges 

Mentor–mentee pairs are encouraged to tailor discussions to align with individual goals and interests. 

Networking & Engagement Opportunities 

Participants are encouraged to attend American Public Works Association (APWA) events together as part of their mentorship experience. These may include: 

  • Luncheons 
  • Breakfasts or lunches 
  • Happy hours 
  • Golf or other networking activities 

Event participation is optional and based on the preferences of each mentor–mentee pair.

  • Support the growth and retention of young professionals in public works 
  • Share institutional knowledge and professional experience 
  • Encourage leadership development and industry engagement 
  • Strengthen professional networks within the public works community
