About the Presentation:
Northern California’s airport experience is about to get even better with plans to launch six major expansions under Sacramento International Airport’s (SMF) Capacity Enhancement Program, SMForward. Over the next five years, this approximately $1.3 billion improvement will take SMF to new heights and new levels of excellence. SMForward is an ambitious project, adding new gates, ticket counters, baggage claim space, a pedestrian walkway between Terminal B and Concourse B, a consolidated rental car facility, and a new parking garage, among other exciting features. Our speaker will discuss this program and other large capital improvement projects for Sacramento County Airports, plus lessons learned so far.
About the Speaker:
TJ Chen, PE, CM, Chief Administrative Officer – Deputy Director – Planning and Development at Sacramento County Department of Airports
TJ Chen has over 20 years of airport project engineering, planning, project management and program management experience. Exclusively aviation focused, his experience includes all three sectors: private, Federal, and now as an airport executive. TJ earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at San Jose State University and was a college intern with the FAA San Francisco Airports District Office. Immediately upon graduating, he worked in the private sector as an airport engineering consultant. His next career move was to return to the FAA San Francisco ADO as a Program Manager. His aspiration to travel internationally led him to Zodiac Aerospace, which allowed him to gain massive amounts of frequent flyer miles during his travels to more than 20 countries. TJ was then recruited to join SMF to serve as the Chief Administrative Officer and Deputy Director for Planning and Development at Sacramento County Department of Airports. TJ is also a proud graduate of the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry (SOI) and subsequently served in the Marine Corps Reserves.
